A GLOBAL technology company announced a strategic collaboration with a semiconductor firm to develop dual-architecture hardware aimed at supporting artificial intelligence (AI) and data-intensive workloads.
The announcement was made on April 14 with the partnership focused on expanding infrastructure flexibility while maintaining reliability and security for enterprise systems.
IBM said it will work with Arm to build computing platforms that combine their respective strengths in system design and energy-efficient architecture.
The initiative seeks to address growing demand as AI becomes more embedded in core business operations. IBM has been investing in hardware platforms such as the Telum II processor and Spyre Accelerator to support enterprise AI deployment.
“As enterprises scale AI and modernize their infrastructure, the breadth of the Arm software ecosystem is enabling these workloads to run across a broader range of environments,” said Mohamed Awad, executive vice president of the Cloud AI Business Unit at Arm. “Our collaboration with IBM builds on this progress, extending the Arm ecosystem into mission-critical enterprise environments and giving organizations greater flexibility in how they deploy and scale these workloads.”
The collaboration will focus on expanding virtualization technologies that allow Arm-based software to operate within IBM enterprise systems, improving compatibility and easing deployment in critical environments.
“This collaboration is a natural extension of IBM’s leadership in hardware and systems innovation,” said Tina Tarquinio, chief product officer of IBM Z and LinuxONE. “Our aim is to expand software choice and improve system performance while maintaining the reliability and security our clients expect.”
The companies will also explore ways to enhance system performance and efficiency to meet the demands of AI and data-intensive applications while addressing requirements such as high availability, security and data sovereignty.

The partnership also aims to support long-term ecosystem growth by developing shared technology layers that allow broader software compatibility and more flexible deployment of applications.
