Introducing: 10 Days of AI Basics!
Day 1: What is AI, and how does it relate to ML (machine learning)?

This is, by far, the most requested series, so I’m really excited to begin!

if you don’t know me, I’m Harper, and I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Stanford University in computer science in artificial intelligence. I have always loved to teach, and at Stanford I TA’d multiple computer science courses, including a PhD-level core AI course, Decision Making Under Uncertainty. I was also at Facebook/Meta for 4 years doing AI/ML engineering for some really cool projects that I’ll talk about in the coming videos.

Now onto today’s topic: Artificial intelligence is the intelligence of computers, and machine learning is a *subset* of intelligence, which means that all machine learning is AI but not all AI is machine learning.

⭐️An example of AI that isn’t ML is programming (“hard-coding”) a machine to say “hi” when the user says “hi”, rather than the machine *learning* that “hi” is an appropriate response to “hi” based on a ton of data it’s received and processed (which would be ML).

ML involves complex math to allow the machine to actually learn from data has been given.

Please let me know in the comments if this video was clear and made sense, and also what other topics are interested in learning about or other questions you have!
