JPMorgan Chase CEO\u00a0Jamie Dimon<\/a>\u00a0offered an optimistic outlook on\u00a0artificial intelligence\u00a0(AI), predicting the technology will not \u201cdramatically reduce\u201d jobs <\/a>over the next year \u2014 provided it is properly regulated.<\/p>\n Dimon was asked by Fox News\u2019 Maria Bartiromo on \u201cSunday Morning Futures\u201d what Americans should do to prepare for this \u201cnew revolution that\u2019s underway with AI,\u201d especially given that the technology is \u201ccreating efficiencies to the extent that it is cutting jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n Before answering the question directly, Dimon prefaced his response by noting that jobs and wages had been weakening even before the rise of widespread AI adoption, and that technology is not to blame for that trend.<\/p>\n \u201cLook, I don\u2019t think AI is going to dramatically reduce jobs like unbelievably next year. And for the most part, AI is going to do great stuff for mankind, like tractors did, like fertilizer did, like vaccines did \u2014 it\u2019ll save lives,\u201d Dimon said.<\/p>\n \u201cNow, of course, it needs to be properly regulated,\u201d he added. \u201cThere are downsides to AI, just like there are to airplanes, pharmaceuticals, cars. All things get used by bad people. So assuming that the government figured out some way to put guardrails around AI\u2026 but it will eliminate jobs. It doesn\u2019t mean that people won\u2019t have other jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n The CEO continued, offering his advice for Americans who may be worried about AI affecting their careers.<\/p>\n \u201cMy advice to people would be, you know, critical thinking, learn skills, learn your EQ, learn how to be good in meetings, how to communicate, how to write. You\u2019ll have plenty of jobs and, if it does happen too fast for society, which is possible, you know, we can\u2019t assimilate all those people that quickly,\u201d Dimon said.<\/p>\n According to Dimon, if the government and large corporations are initially unable to make widespread AI adoption work for the public, it\u2019s up to those parties to figure out a plan to phase in the technology \u201cin a way that won\u2019t damage a lot of people.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>
